This review contains spoilers for S3E10 The Last Seven Weeks.
Before the holiday break we were left with Beth not wanting Randall to continue his campaign.
Beth believes that Randall should be more present for the family, after finding out Deja is still communicating with her mother, Tess just started having her period, and has come out to them as being a lesbian. Beth seems to think Randall needs to stop everything he’s doing to tend to his family.
I’m not sure I agree with this. Life goes on. I’m not understanding the reason why Randall should quit the campaign. Beth nor Randall have a full time job, they will eventually get jobs. Randall being on the city council can be his job. That is life, normalcy, something maybe they need to get back to in terms of a day-to-day routine. He can still have a family and a job.
Zoie says Kevin has pushed her the entire relationship. She moves in with him but says she only moved in to make Kevin happy. This bothers me because Zoie is a grown woman who seems confident and assertive. If she didn’t want to move in she could have made the decision not to.
We see in this episode some of what Beth was saying, that Zoie isn’t good with men and she will hurt Kevin. Zoie asks an old boyfriend, a congressman, to help with getting Kevin access to his uncle’s military records. When the congressman shows up it is clear that he is still angry with Zoie over the break up, “I thought enough time had passed,” he says after a bit of an outburst.
Beth tells Randall he cares too much, but she knows who she married, that’s why she married him, and he should continue on with the election.
Kate and Toby prepare the nursery for the new arrival.
Zoie gives back Kevin’s keys. She then admits that having her own safe space is a safety blanket for her, after experiencing the years of abuse at the hands of her father. She’s in love with Kevin and wants the keys back. I think this was a BIG moment for her, to admit her truth. As they are unpacking Zoie’s boxes they come across one of Jack’s old boxes with a postcard from his brother Nicki. So Jack knew his brother was alive!
Oh, and RANDALL WINS!!
