This review contains spoilers for S2E15 Queens.
The episode gives us more insight into the story of Dr. Mina Okafor. Mina’s friend has a form of breast cancer that greatly affects women of Nigerian decent. Nigerian surgeon Dr. Josephine Okeke, played by the legendary Lynn Whitfield, is one of the top surgeons in the world for operating on breast cancer patients. What isn’t revealed until she arrives at Chastain is that Dr. Okeke is Mina’s mother!
Up until this point we have not learned much about Mina, though we did learn about a major part of her earlier in the season. Mina confides in Dr. Austin, that when she was in med school there was a house fire when she was at home with her younger sisters and they both died during the incident. For this reason, along with her mother’s harshness and treatment of her, she has not returned home. Dr. Austin, and Dr. Bell, observed firsthand how brash Dr. Okeke can be. Dr. Okeke brings up the death of Mina’s sisters during a lunch in front of her colleagues, not explicitly but enough to bring a reaction out of Mina. She even chastised Mina DURING surgery.
Something that carried over from the previous episode was the engagement! Micah proposed to Mina. Mina has not made her decision yet; she is taking her time.
Unfortunately, little Henry is back in the hospital. He is not experiencing seizures so he was discharged but he fainted on the way out. The QuoVadis device implanted to stop Henry’s seizures is causing his heart to stop. Conrad makes a mad dash to Henry’s pediatrician across the street to get the tool that will stop the device.
Conrad begs Dr. Bell to end Chastain’s relationship with QuoVadis. There is no way to know if this will happen. Dr. Bell borrowed money from Gordon, and does not want to be exposed. The next episodes will be very interesting. We will find out Mina’s answer to Micah’s proposal, if Chastain will end their relationship with QuoVadis, and hopefully if Julian will be found.
The Resident returns Monday, March 4th on FOX.
